Effective July 1, 2019, Reverend Jim Martin became the PASTOR of MANATEE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. Jim was born in CLEVELAND, OH, but was raised in MIAMI, FL. He has served in the Ministry for 53 years, serving churches throughout the state of FLORIDA and has held leadership positions at the District, Conference and Jurisdictional levels. He holds a B.A. from Scarritt College, NASHVILLE, TN and a M.DIV. from Candler School Of Theology, EMORY University, ATLANTA, GA. Jim is married to Margaret Sever, a native Floridian who’s family dates from the 1830’s in FLORIDA. Jim and Margaret were married in 1965 at ALAPATTAH METHODIST CHURCH, MIAMI. They have two daughters who live nearby (BRADENTON and CLEARWATER), and three grandchildren, ages 11, 9 and 6.
Pastor Jim describes himself as a “liberated-evangelical-conservative” … meaning that he strongly believes that one’s faith so makes an impact on the world around us by assisting the disenfranchised of our world; that everyone should have a born-again experience by accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord; and the basis for all of it comes out of scripture. Pastor Jim believes he should follow the example of Jesus in his practical and inspiring sermons through the use of humor and stories.
